FibroScan
Detect fatty liver early with a non-invasive FibroScan liver scan.
About Fatty Liver
Fatty liver disease is characterized by a buildup of fat in the liver. This can be caused by heavy alcohol use (alcohol-associated liver disease) or by underlying metabolic factors (metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease/steatohepatitis). In either form, fatty liver disease can lead to inflammation and scarring (fibrosis), and it can eventually cause cirrhosis. Detecting excess fat in the liver early on is the best way to prevent this condition from progressing.
FibroScan Technology
FibroScan
A FibroScan is a non-invasive ultrasound that measures fat buildup and scarring in the liver. During a FibroScan exam, a probe is placed over the liver and releases ultrasound waves through the liver. This process is completely painless and requires minimal preparation.
Frequently
Asked
Questions
What should I do to prepare for my FibroScan?
On the day of your FibroScan, don't eat or drink anything for three hours before the scan. (Small sips of water are fine.) Do not have any alcohol for 48 hours before the scan. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing so the provider can easily examine your abdomen. Remove any belly piercings, and let us know if you are pregnant or have an implanted device (like a pacemaker).
How long does a FibroScan take?
A FibroScan typically takes 5-15 minutes, depending on the level of examination the provider needs to perform.
When will I get my FibroScan results?
You'll get your results the day of the scan before you leave the office. Your provider will walk you through the results.
